February Beyond Balance Bootcamp!
When I found out I was pregnant with my son almost 4 years ago, I had been practicing heated yoga everyday and running pretty regularly. But with each passing day, I wanted to do those things less and less. I was always hot (one of the few downsides of living in Hawaii), tired, and unmotivated to do much of anything, especially drive all the way to the yoga studio.
Enter: Beachbody.
My mom had been working some home fitness and nutrition programs for awhile at that point, but I honestly thought it was all a little weird and unrealistic. “Mom, no one is actually that happy and positive,” “no one actually stays that consistent with working out and eating healthy,” “I definitely do NOT drink shakes”… you get the picture. I was kind of a hater.
But I got to the point where I didn’t have much of an appetite for food, and I had no desire to leave my apartment. So after the 10th time she asked me to try out a Beachbody program, I said yes.
The rest is history.
Ok, not really. BUT the nutrition shakes gave me energy, balanced my moods, decreased my junk cravings (except for mac and cheese which will always be a priority in my life), and were yummy. The workouts were low impact but challenging, and I loved that I could workout in the privacy of my own living room wearing only my preggo lady underwear.
Even more importantly, it was the first time I felt part of a community of women all dedicated to not just health & wellness, but self-improvement as well. While we were working on our strength and flexibility, we were also working on our mindset (which it turns out is the key to achieving ANY goal, physical or otherwise). We were there for each other for all the ups and downs of being a human. We kept each other accountable to our goals by posting in our Facebook group daily, and we supported each other when obstacles came up.
It wasn’t much later that I started sharing what I was doing with friends, family, and everyone who would ask me how I was staying so healthy and happy during my pregnancy. I started my own little virtual wellness community and found so much joy and fulfillment in helping other women achieve their goals.
After I had my son, it was this community that helped me feel like I wasn’t totally alone. They were the ones cheering me on, even when I felt like I would never be able to do a push-up again. Because eventually I did do push-ups again (with a baby crawling all over me to boot!), and my strength improved so I was crushing more difficult workouts and feeling like a total bad ass. I am so beyond grateful for each and every one of them for helping me build my confidence back up again. Together, we’ve broken up with dieting and deprivation FOR GOOD, and I personally have never in my life been more consistent with my fitness.
Our Beyond Balance Bootcamp family has grown to over 140 women and we’re not stopping! We want to empower as many people as possible to take control of their health and fitness because health is WEALTH, baby! And who doesn’t love that?
