How To Read Your Human Design Chart (Part 1)
Let’s get something straight. Your Human Design type has NOTHING to do with your personality. There are no quizzes, tests, or lists that will tell you your type based on your subjective responses. It’s not about who you think you are currently (because that’s wrapped up with who the world, your family, social media, etc. has told you to be).
When you first look at your Human Design chart, you may be confused. No, this isn’t just a mess of shapes, colors, and numbers. It’s your unique magic. The only way to get an accurate chart is to calculate it with your exact birth day, year, time, and location (beware of online quizzes that claim to tell you your Human Design!).
And it’s not going to change over time. If you were born a Generator, you will live and die as a Generator too.
Your type is determined by which energy centers you have defined (i.e. colored in), and in this comprehensive guide, I’ll explain why your chart classifies you as your unique type.
Remember, this isn’t about your personality. This is to understand how you were designed to move through the world, through the lens of your unique energetic blueprint.
When you first look at your chart, notice which energy centers are colored in (i.e. defined). These centers are where you have consistent energy. You can find your path of least resistance when you work with your defined energy centers.
For example, if your Emotional Solar Plexus is defined, you will have consistent access to emotional energy. You are designed to ride your emotional wave when making big decisions and learn to pay attention to and process your feelings.
These defined energy centers will determine your Type (aura), Strategy, and Authority (inner guidance).

If you have a defined sacral center, right away we know that you have a buzzing energy reserve that is just waiting to be used on something really juicy… something that feels exciting and expansive to you!
OR it can be wasted on the things that kill your buzz, which drains your energy and leaves you feeling tired, stuck, and frustrated.

If you have a motor center connected to your throat, your energy comes in BIG bursts when you’re activated by a powerful urge to do something. In between these urges, you need a lot of space and REST.
This energy to act on these unpredictable urges that come from within, but in between your urges, you’re designed to rest deeply. Due to energetic conditioning in your environment, this can be difficult and you may end up feeling tired, angry, or creatively blocked.
If you don’t have the sacral defined, and don’t have a motor-to-throat connection, you will absorb a lot of energy from people around you. It allows you to feel and understand others deeply, but it can also be very exhausting.
Projectors are designed to see other people deeply and guide energy. They are the world’s guides and teachers.
But when you’re not guiding or teaching, you need deep rest. Around 20% of the population are Projectors. Think about people you know, do any of them make you feel understood and seen? They may be a Projector!
Lastly, if you don’t have any energy centers defined…
You absorb the energy of whoever you’re around, so be discerning about who you surround yourself with.
Reflectors literally reflect energy and truth back to us. Their energy depends on their environment, but it’s also influenced by the planetary transits and lunar cycle. They’re deeply connected to the cosmos and external energies.
If you’re a Reflector, you are a part of the 1%! You’re extremely unique in your energy with all undefined centers.
When you KNOW your energy, you can HONOR your energy. When you honor your energy, you stop trying to paddle upstream and simply allow yourself to float down the river ⛵️.
