Do You Pee When You Sneeze?

Hey mama! Have you ever sneezed or laughed really hard or ran after your toddler…and lost control of your bladder for a sec?

This week on the Aligned Motherhood podcast, I interviewed Brianna DeWitt (DPT) about the expansive topic of strengthening your pelvic floor (*hint, exactly what us moms need)! Brianna is a pelvic floor specialist for prenatal and postpartum moms and moms-to-be at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, HI.

As a mother, is incontinence something you struggle with? Let’s stop joking about how this is a normal part of motherhood and start discussing how it is within our power to treat it.

In this episode, Brianna shares ways to prevent and treat incontinence by talking about what to do during your pregnancy to strengthen and loosen the pelvic floor, which helps prepare your pelvic floor for birth and strengthen it for postpartum.

If you’re that mom who knows exactly what to do but struggles to find the time to do it, then there’s something in here for you, too. We share tips and tricks on finding the time and motivation to get your pelvic floor exercises in. We also dive into when to the right and wrong ways to do a Kegel, what diastasis recti is, and if you can heal it without surgery.

Make sure you tune into this week’s episode if you need to know when you should be seeing a pelvic floor specialist (hint: it’s especially important if you’re pregnant!).

Bri schools us on common problems, stigmas, and misconceptions with the pelvic floor. If you’re a mom, expectant mom, or thinking about becoming one, this episode is a must listen!

Your pelvic floor muscles will thank you… and so will I!
